Sunil Perera and Piyal Perera are the two surviving members from the original line up. In the thirty years that followed, many changes have occurred in the group's membership that have led to the eight members present today. Lead singer Sunil Perera, schooled at St Peter's College in Colombo, renovated a portion of his house on Galle Road (in Ratmalana) into a recording studio and began recording their first album. The band was formed in 1969 by Anton Perera, a confectioner at the Glucorasa company, comprised of his five sons (Sunil, Nihal, Piyal, Nimal, Lal) - all of whom had recently completed high school. The danish music-magazine "Gaffa" rated the album "One Hand Up" three out of six stars. They are said to be a terrific live-band. Until their first album, "One Hand Up" came out in 2007, they where mostly known for being the danish band "Outlandish"'s backingband. Gypsies is a danish rap/R'nB/indie-group from Århus.
